2000 vs 2001 Bordeaux
Both 2000 and 2001 were great vintages to start the 21st century, but what differences do the vintages have?
Neal Martin said “The 2000 vintage is one that looks back in time whereas 2001 looks forward.”, but what does he mean by this?
The 2000 Vintage is similar to the 80s and 90s vintages, having the same tropes, however the 2000s are slightly more evolved than the 2001s, and have more secondary flavours and aromas. The 2001s have a great freshness and acidity, which helps keep it’s ‘youthful vigor’.
The 2001s looked forward towards the decade of the 10s because chateau’s were de-leafing and green harvesting, which means the concentration levels were maximised, which intern means that these wines were scoring higher points.
