Neal Martin recently reviewed Château d'Yquem 2001 and quoted it saying "‘simply one of the most magnificent wines of any kind that can pass your lips". The critic gave the wine an outstanding 100 points, which is a common rating from other critics!

Tasting note -

"Just weeks after tasting the 2001 Château d’Yquem at the estate, another bottle was served at a lunch in London and it was perfection. The aromatics are practically identical and likewise the palate, but this bottle, which had been decanted, displays a scintilla more tension, perhaps more "vibrancy" that so effortlessly counterbalances the richness. Irrespective of points, it is simply one of the most magnificent wines of any kind that can pass your lips."

Château d'Yquem has the finest dessert wines in current times, and is the only Premier Cru Supérieur estate in Sauternes, which was classified in 1855. The Chateau is 75 metres above sea level, and provides great conditions for the making of the wines. In 2012, the estate abandoned that years vintage because the quality was not good enough, so it shows how high the standards are at the estate.
